About A Weekend Of Sax!

Weekend of Sax takes place May 4-6 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and is a premier cultural event that supports music organizations and students in Bucks County. For three days, it brings together the world famous Washington Saxophone Quartet from Washington, DC, the Delaware Valley College Concert Band, the Community Conservatory, the Mercer Museum, Maestro Gary Fagin, the conductor of the Bucks County Symphony and Bill Schutt’s “Soon to be Famous” Del Val Saxophone Quartet. Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th are special days in Bucks County.

The Washington Saxophone Quartet (WSQ) has played for thousands and was wildly acclaimed on their China tour and are heard on NPR. On Sunday afternoon, May 6th at 3:00, they will perform a free concert with the Delaware Valley College Concert Band on the Delaware College campus.

On Saturday night, May 5th, the WSQ will entertain at a soiree held at the new Mercer Museum. The soiree will be a benefit for the Community Conservatory and the Delaware Valley College music program. One of the highlights of the soirée will be the world premier of Maestro Gary Fagin’s saxophone quartet arrangements of two Duke Ellington compositions. The Del Val Saxophone Quartet will also perform an octet with the WSQ. The event will feature spirits and hors d’oeuvres and is seventy-five dollars per person. The event will have limited seating, so book early. This event benefits the Delaware Valley College Music Department and the Bucks County Community Conservatory.

On Friday, the WSQ will conduct free clinics for music students in Bucks County. This is weekend of fun, firsts and support for Bucks County’s music organizations and students. These are events not to be missed.
